What you NEED to post on YouTube in the beginning (2021)

More and more people are creating YouTube channels. Either aspiring to build something more out of this or just having some fun, few people actually know how to grow on YouTube, because most of the people giving advice on how to do so are creators that haven’t been at yours or mine level in a while. In fact, this is the exact reason why I’m writing this.

Currently, my main YouTube channel has VERY FEW subscribers, so it’s not the channel that I will be using as an example – that would be my gaming channel. I created this channel a long time ago and only really posted on it for a month back in June 2020. I went from 6 subscribers to almost 100 in less than a month, with NO promotion AND with basically just one video.

While it might seem like nothing next to the bigger-million-subs-having-channels on the platform, people that have tried to build a channel on YouTube know what it’s like in the beginning. That 100 subscribers from just one video without any external promotion on social media is something. Something that could’ve translated into much more if I had just kept going… Damn. I should’ve kept going. Oh well…

When I saw the numbers, I realized the key to building a following on YouTube, or every other platform out there really, is about creating TWO main types of content.

1. Searchable Content

What does this mean? What is “Searchable Content” ? Do you ever go on google or click on that box at the top of YouTube and search for anything? Literally anything. Whatever comes up is what “Searchable Content” is.

This is the content that will bring people to your channel. Content people will discover when they search for something. It may be a tutorial or an answer to some hard hitting question or even a “top 5” video.

Some examples of this type of content would be:

  • Minecraft Dungeons Level 2 Tutorial
  • How to make your own makeup
  • Top 5 Ways to recreate the death of Julius Caesar

People will click on this video, they will watch it and hopefully not click away too fast. In the ideal scenario, watching this video, they will fall in love with you and then either click on your channel to see more of your videos or stay until the end and click on the “suggested video” tab part of the end screen. This is when the second type of content comes in.

2. YOU Content

What I like to call “YOU Content” are videos that represent your personality. Although it is important to give away a little bit of “what makes you special” in every video, these are the type of videos where you can go crazy. Really show off your “goofy” side so to say. Mess around, make jokes, make some crazy edits and most importantly – do not hold back.

It is important to understand that people may come across your channel because of your content, but they will stay and, hopefully, become loyal only because of you.

That’s why what you’re gonna wanna do is a combination of the two. It doesn’t really matter which one you make more of as long as you put out both types of videos. I would just recommend you start with one of each and then continue however you like.

My Experience

During that month back in 2020, I used to post walkthroughs of Minecraft Dungeons which had just come out at the time. For a while I didn’t see any views, traction, etc… Until I made this one video titled “How to get the blacksmith in Minecraft Dungeons” or something like that. To make it clearer – it was a tutorial video. A short 2-minute long video that explained how to get something done in a video game.

That video got 100s of views per day and as someone with 8 subs (4 of which my alt accounts), it was a good feeling. A VERY good feeling. That’s when my other videos started to take off. It wasn’t nearly as many views as the tutorial, but, for every 10 viewers who watched that video, a little percentage of them checked out my other videos and from those viewers some actually subscribed.

That’s what ONE video did to my channel in LESS than a month. Now imagine if I had just kept going.

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading – I really do appreciate it.

Be sure to check out my YouTube channel – I’ve started to upload more on there – as well as my tiktok and other socials.

Have a good one. =)
