The midnight sky is an average movie that was mostly carried by the fact that the lead is played by George Clooney.
Xmas came and I decided to watch something on Netflix with the fam. Oh right. Yes, I watched this more than 3 months ago. I planned on writing a review on it the next day, but then something came up I had to do real quick so December 26th 2020 turned into April 3rd 2021.
I was going to delete this “idea” form my blog table on Notion, but rather than do that I decided to just write down some of my thoughts and well elaborate on the notes I made during, but mostly after this movie.
What even is this movie?
I feel like the movie is almost like an Interstellar/The Martian wannabe while also being completely different from those movies. It’s got the end of the world side to it, the space stuff and the loneliness, sad old dude stuff.
It’s sort of boring
There’s not much action and by that I mean like very little so definitely don’t go into this thinking you’re watching a Michael Bay production cause it’s not even close. It’s more of a serious movie that wants to be deep, but then the only action scene ends in a death of a chick (whose name I won’t say cause I want to keep this spoiler free for the most part) which was like pretty unnecessary or at least it didn’t build up to it enough cause I did not care about her at all.
It felt unnecessary
I didn’t quite connect to her so that time of the movie just felt like it was taken away from the main characters. It’s just like “here she is and she’s happy” and then ” oh no something happened so not so happy” and then “oh no we now have to do this other thing so stressed” and “oh no I’m stuck so I’m dead”. I guess I understand why that whole short storyline was necessary but with some small adjustments that could’ve been avoided.
It’s not that it was bad, but mostly it took away like 20 minutes or something from the movie and during this time I completely forgot about the main characters and storyline.
Alright look. I honestly like the movie. I thought it could be better but also it was decent. Not too good but not bad. The whole thing with the little girl at the end was pretty good and I honestly didn’t really expect it which was a nice surprise.
