I was watching “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns” and I was thinking to myself: “Damn. I really wish this was a live-action movie.” And then I finished the movie and then I watched the trailer for Robert Pattinson’s batman movie again and I though: “Damn. I wish this is gonna be good.”
There’s a lot of batman movies out there. In fact, batman is the number one superhero by the number of movies that featured him – a total of a lot of films (animated or live action); pretty sure it’s over 20. And I think we can agree that The Dark Knight trilogy are really great movies. But, what if I told you there can be an even better one. I know, I know. I’m pretty amazed by myself as well.
I wasn’t really much of a fan of the animated DC Universe until one of my friends told me to watch them because they’re “on par with the MCU”. So I did. I watched some Flash and some Justice League and I didn’t dislike them but I wasn’t that impressed. And then he told me to watch Return of the Dark Knight. Both parts. So I did. And this time I was impressed, alright? It really captivated me. So I was wondering why I liked these movies so much.
I think they were a very good representation of Batman’s persona and his most important qualities.
- His ability to inspire. (When he beat the mutants leader and the people were inspire to stand up to crime. Not only that, but a part of the mutants formed a group of vigilantes called “Sons of Batman”)
- Relatability. (I’m not saying that everyone can relate to a crime-fighting, high IQ billionaire. In the movie he’s, I believe, 55 years old and you can obviously notice that he’s older because – which is kind of a sub-plot of the movie. Plus he’s one of the few superheroes that isn’t exactly super.)
- Never backs down. (If he believes something is right, he’ll do it and he will never stop. Not even Superman, who is crazy powerful wasn’t able to stop him. That scene at the end when he basically tells Clark that if he wanted he could kill him – chills.)
- Savage. (Favorite part of this movie was – big surprise – when he killed Joker. He got the job done even though he was weak and scarred. I think most batman fans would enjoy a dark, R rated, extremely dramatic, Joker & Logan like movie where Batman kills Joker.)
- Darkness. (As I’ve mentioned above, a batman movie, to really be its best, needs to be dark. Like really dark. Kind of like Joker from 2019. So that it really portrays what Batman represents which is light pushing through even on the darkest of days.
- I think my point is pretty clear. I think the world would greatly benefit from a high-quality, dramatic, non-superhero-flick, batman movie.
