5 Movies on Netflix you Should watch this Christmas

Hey! Would you look at that? It’s that time of the year again. It’s finally holiday season 2019. That means meeting up with your loved ones, decorating the Xmas Tree together, caroling possibly for some, listening to “All I want for Christmas is you” by Mariah Carey, watching “Home Alone” a couple of times, and many more traditions that differ from person to person.

This blog post is about that last one I mentioned. Not exactly watching “Home Alone” per se, but the concept of watching Christmas movies with your loved ones (or even by yourself…I don’t judge) and this post is a guide for you on what (newer) movies to watch on this year’s holiday break (considering you have Netflix or know where you can watch them online for free).

1. Let It Snow

” A snowstorm hits a small mid-western town on Christmas Eve, bringing together a group of high school students. They soon find their friendships and love lives colliding, and come Christmas morning, nothing will be the same. “

A truly beautiful & wholesome Christmas movie. Some would say it’s sort of a newer, high school version of the 2003 British movie Love Actually and it does have a lot of similarities. It’s about a couple of friends/(teens who know each other) who, on the day before Christmas, find themselves going through some tough patches in their love lives, but, by the miracle of Christmas, they end up in a much better place come Christmas day.

Also this is the first Christmas movie EVER to feature a queer relationship so to say, so that is quite the step forward in cinema.

2. Klaus

This one is actually an animated movie, but it’s so much more than just another kids movie.
“Klaus” is a ninety minutes take on the origin story of Santa Claus. The Netflix-proposed synopsis goes as followed: “A simple act of kindness brings hope to a frozen place, faraway place — and sparks a Christmas legend.

And it couldn’t be more perfect to describe the masterpiece that is this animation. The main idea does not seem too obvious at first, but eventually it clears up. What I love about it most is that it portrays the simple concept that is kindness and how much you can change by choosing to be kind to others. It convinces us that we should be more kind to one another, because not only does that help other, but it also helps you become a better, happier person which is THE goal, isn’t it? At least for most people in this world, the goal in life is to be truly HAPPY.

Explorator181 Rating: 10/10 (in the Christmas category).

3. The Knight Before Christmas

“A medieval knight is transported to the present day, where he falls for a high school science teacher who’s disillusioned by love. “

This is an interesting and quite original take on a wholesome Christmas-themed comedy. It’s about this woman called Brooke (played by Vanessa Hudgens) that is not in the best place possible from the relationship-status-point-of-view. By some Xmas miracle, a knight from the 14th century (Cole, played by Josh Whitehouse) is “teleport-ed” to the present day. They “run into” each other and, because of certain events, they spend spend some time together. Eventually they end up having feeling for eachother…duh

And if you think about it, Brooke finally got her knight in shining armor.

Explorator181 Rating: 8.5/10 (in the Christmas category).

4. A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby

“Amber and Richard host royals from a faraway kingdom to renew a sacred truce, but when the priceless treaty disappears, peace is put in jeopardy and an ancient curse threatens their family.”

“A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby” is the 3rd movie from this series. It is recommended that you watch the first 2 before this one, but you should still be able to enjoy this one. For those who have watched the other ones and you enjoyed them, you most probably will enjoy this just as much. The movie is definitely keeping the same sort of vibe as the last one.

Yes, they’re having a baby, but…
The main story line, I would say, is the one concerning the could-happen-but-hopefully-won’t-happen war between Aldovia and Peglia, states that have had an alliance for 600 years, because of the missing document that states their alliance. It’s not my favorite out of these 5 but it’s not bad.

Explorator181 Rating: 7.5/10 (in the Christmas category).

5. Merry Happy Whatever

“A strong-willed father navigates the stress of the holiday season when his daughter brings her new boyfriend home for Christmas.

“Merry Happy Whatever” is actually a TV Show, but I put it on the list cause it’s recent (Nov 2019). It’s not the greatest show of all time, but it’s a pretty nice and wholesome show about this big family that’s got all the peeps: the secretly gay daughter, the out of work son, the modern kid, the baby, the up tight sister, the in-laws and of course the strict, old school, cop father.

Explorator181 Rating: 9.0/10 (in the Christmas category).
