Let It Go – The Past is The Past

There’s a lot of reasons why people do not accomplish their goals and one of the main ones is the fact that they just cannot MOVE ON, they cannot LOOK PAST the obstacles, they simply cannot LET IT GO and this is a problem with which I used to struggle a lot. I believe that this was one of the reasons behind my hardest times.

HOW IS THAT?

Growing up, I used to be the fat kid in the back of the class that was depressed, thinking about ending it and didn’t want to socialize but now I realize that while I did feel under a lot of pressure from other people, a lot of it was my fault. I never could just move on from what other people said or thought about me, I could never focus on my own thing without thinking what someone else would think.

Sometimes in life the hardest thing to do is to let go of your past, to move on from something that happened, but , as the great Garyvee said:

There are a million reasons why not, but there is one good reason why, which is this: you just have to persevere. No matter what happens, it’s the way it is, and you have to keep going. And that is where the optimism lives. If you truly believe that you can do it no matter what, you’ve got this.

I have been truly living by this rule only in the past 2 months or so and I have to tell you that it honestly had a pretty serious impact on my life in general, but mostly on my attitude facing hard work, school/university, discipline, etc.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The day I decided that I want to change and burry my past self something happened. I entered this like “cocoon”-time-period. That is when my mindset changed. I started to think differently. More logic, less emotion, because the sad truth is that emotions a lot of times makes us do stupid, bad-for-us decisions.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Instead of living in the past, I started living in the present. I gave up all my activities that interfered with me accomplishing my goals, including, but not limited to: PMO (I joined the fapstronauts – NoFap), I stopped with the video games (I used to play hours and hours of Fortnite, Minecraft, Clash Royale, Star Craft, and so on), eating Junk Food (junk food made me even fatter than I was and that messed with my goals a lot), sleeping (I don’t mean like in general, but some days I used to sleep like 10-12 hours a day so I limited the time), TV Shows/Movies (my binge-watching marathons happened too often and that messed with my schedule a lot), etc.

I BEGAN TO BE IN CHARGE OF MY FUTURE

I started to focus on what I needed to do, which at the moment was to figure out what the hell I wanted to do with my life. That’s when I started to work out more often and so I got more into the whole diet, mental/physical exercise stuff. And so I started my “An August Lifestyle” instagram account where I tracked my personal achievements in the health department. This way I had something to do so I didn’t have time to think about the video games, porn, watching YT and all that garbage. Just like that, I started to slowly, but surely, get over my addictions.

TL DR:

Moving on and letting go of your past is at times super hard but a very important step in achieving greatness, especially when you see that what you’ve been doing isn’t helping.

  1. I like what you’re saying here, but you can’t let go of your past until you correctly understand it, and that’s not always something you can do on your own. I’m writing this 6 weeks after you wrote this entry, so I don’t know if you still subscribe to this theory, but you are right in that we need to move on from the past. You just can’t wipe it off like it’s dirt. It’s more of a stench and you can’t get rid of that stench unless you first understand what it is and how it got there.
